LCUW Home Run Team Celebration

Virgil Probasco addresses the crowd at a recent Crosscutters game.

As Chairman of this year’s Lycoming County United Way campaign, Virgil Probasco recently represented our United Way team that year after year has led the way in providing Lycoming County residents with a championship performance. Probasco saluted the  businesses who have given their time and support to help ensure the continuing success of United Way at the Williamsport Crosscutters game last Saturday night – the 14 sponsors of the 2011 LCUW Home Run Team.

Since 1994, Home Run Team sponsors have annually pledged for every home run hit by the Crosscutters. Including a total of 20 round-trippers hit this season, Probasco reported the Home Run Team sponsor support has passed the $119,000 mark.

As a special thank you for their generosity, each sponsor received a commemorative baseball signed by Hall of Famer great Gaylord Perry and a specially designed home plate.

This year’s sponsors were:  Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships; Fairfield Auto Group; Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.; Jersey Shore State Bank; Lycoming Mall; McDonald’s; Muncy Bank & Trust; Phillips Supply House; Range Resources; Staiman Recycling Corp.; Superior Plus Energy Services; Susquehanna Bank; Williamsport Crosscutters; and Woodlands Bank.

LCUW executive director Scott N. Lowery, left, presents Crosscutter Aaron Altherr with a plaque for hitting the most home runs this season.

As important as our sponsors are, we couldn’t have raised a penny without the help of the Crosscutters players themselves. In acknowledgement of his success as the Crosscutters Home Run leader, with 5 home runs hit this season, LCUW presented Aaron Altherr with a plaque in recognition of his individual achievement as the Lycoming County United Way 2011 Home Run Team Player of the Year.
