Doug Shangraw Memorial Golf Outing Planned

Plans are underway for the 2nd annual ‘Doug Shangraw Memorial Golf Outing’ on Friday, September 17, sponsored by Merrill Lynch/Bank of America and WZXR/Backyard Broadcasting.

Initiated in 2009 by family, friends and co-workers of Doug Shangraw, the golf outing is a fundraiser for Lycoming County United Way where Doug was a dedicated volunteer prior to his death in 2008.

“Doug was a beloved and respected member of our community,” said Allen Kiessling, a volunteer helping to plan the event. “He is missed very much by his family, friends, and the community. We wanted to host this event in his honor as a tribute to the work he did for United Way.”

WZXR will broadcast throughout the golf outing at White Deer and there will be numerous contests.

“All proceeds from the event benefit United Way and the vital community programs funded right here in Lycoming County,” added Kiessling.

“Doug was very involved in this community, and this is just the type of event he would have enjoyed,” said his wife, Blair Shangraw.

Both the Challenge and the Vintage courses at White Deer will be open to our players, allowing more golfers to come out and enjoy the day with us,” said Kiessling. “We have quite a few foursomes already reserved so players should send in the registration form sooner than later to get a spot. The form is available at”

Several sponsorship opportunities are also still available including Sand Trap Sponsors, Hole Sponsors, and “Fresh” Sponsors.

“In the casual and fun-loving spirit in which Doug aka ‘Fresh’ enjoyed golf, this package includes four ‘Fresh Passes’  in which the golfer can pick up the  ball and move it,” explained Kiessling.

After the golf outing, a family picnic will be held in South Williamsport.

“His family was everything to Doug,” said Matt Cramer, a lifelong friend and coworker of Doug’s. “The day wouldn’t be complete without some fun and games with the kids.”
